Mother-of-pearl

Mabe pearl is a naturally cultured half-pearl, also known as MABE pearl, button pearl, or half-round pearl, belonging to saltwater pearls. It is mostly produced in Australia and Japan, and also in Hainan Province, China. Its mother-of-pearl is the penguin oyster from Amami Oshima, Japan, and its growth cycle takes 4-5 years, making it the final product of the mother-of-pearl's life cycle. Mabe pearls are famous for their unique half-round shape and dreamy luster, and their global annual production is rare.

✅  【Origin】
Mabe pearls are mainly produced in the waters of Australia, Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Australia has the highest production, accounting for 70% of the world's total, and is famous for its large pearl sizes of 15-20mm.

✅ 【Shape】
Mabe pearls come in various shapes, including flat rounds, ovals, teardrops, and hearts, with each pearl having its unique form. Their surface has a metallic luster and a flat back, making them suitable for setting designs. The diameter of Mabe pearls is usually between 10-20mm, with those over 20mm being extremely rare and more valuable.

✅ 【Color】
Mabe pearls come in a rich array of colors, including white, pink, purple, and gold. White is the most common, but top-grade Mabe pearls often have iridescent overtones, such as pink, blue, or green halos in white. Pink and purple Mabe pearls are rarer and more valuable.

✅ 【How to choose Mabe pearls】

  1. Shape: Choose plump, symmetrical pearls, avoiding obvious flaws or defects.

  2. Color: The color should be pure and vibrant, with white pearls having iridescent overtones being preferred.

  3. Luster: The luster should be bright and soft, with a mirror-like surface and clear reflections.

  4. Size: Choose the appropriate size according to your needs; the larger the diameter, the higher the value.
