Tahitian black pearls

Black pearls come from "the closest place to heaven" — the French Polynesian archipelago of Tahiti.
The mother-of-pearl for black pearls is the black-lip oyster, which secretes natural black, green, gray, and other colorful nacre, much like mysterious ocean spirits, emitting captivating iridescent light. This results in particularly diverse colors, ranging from various shades of gray to black.

✅ Origin
Tahitian black pearls originate from the Tahitian islands of French Polynesia, where 9️⃣5️⃣% of the world's Tahitian black pearls are produced.

✅ Size
Tahitian black pearls are generally larger, typically between 8-14 millimeters, with a small percentage exceeding 16 millimeters, which are considered rare treasures. Generally, the larger the black pearl, the higher the price.

✅ Luster
This is the most crucial aspect of pearl quality! A good pearl luster can reflect a mirror-like effect, and the stronger the luster, the higher the price.

✅ Color
Tahitian black pearls have a very wide color range, including green, blue, and gray. Each pearl's color is unique, and peacock green is more popular than other colors, hence its higher price. Generally, a beautiful overtone will also increase the pearl's value.

✅ Blemishes
Pearls often have blemishes such as pinpricks, ridges, and indentations on their surface, which can affect their quality and price. Perfect Tahitian black pearls are extremely rare.

✅ Shape
All other conditions being equal, the closer to perfectly round, the higher the price.

✅ Certificate
Opting for a Japanese Shin-Kagami certificate is always a safe bet, but certified pearls are invariably much more expensive than uncertified ones.

Tahitian black pearl grades are divided into:

  1. Lagoon (Green Series): The highest quality black pearl, but not all Lagoon pearls are green.

  2. Platinum Grey (Blue Series): The highest quality in the grey pearl category.

  3. Sunset Black (Red Series): The highest quality in the red series. It has a slight reddish glow, with a sunset-like hue, and is extremely rare.

  4. Black Butterfly Queen (Other Colors): The highest quality mixed-color black pearl. Difficult to match, and extremely rare.

  5. Peacock Green (Green Series): This grading focuses more on color, with a green hue, and a lower surface luster than Lagoon.

  6. Ocean Blue (Blue Series): The black pearl with the strongest luster in the grey series, with a bluish hue. Surface luster is lower than Platinum Grey.

  7. South Pacific Floating Pearl Islands (Other Colors): The mixed-color black pearl with the strongest luster, with a lower surface luster than Black Butterfly Queen.
